Looking for Local Family Representatives

We want you! Defence Families of Australia (DFA) is the official body appointed by the government to represent the views of Defence Families. Its aim is to inform government and Defence on the needs of the ADF family.

And we are looking for volunteers to be family representatives.

It is our goal is to ensure the quality of life for all Defence families by providing a recognised forum for their views and by reporting, making recommendations and influencing policy that directly affects families.

DFA has the ability to reach and bring a broad range of ideas and people together. With representation across the country and at high-level collaborative working groups nationally, DFA contributes to and are consulted on major policy changes. We know our community and we have lived the experience which gives us a unique insight into the needs of future policy affecting ADF families.

DFA operates as an Advisory body to the Minister for Defence Personnel and the Chief of the Defence Force. Our organisation sits outside of Defence systems, giving DFA independence and impartiality to act in the best interests of ADF families.

The work that we do is not possible without the team of dedicated volunteers who make up our incredible Local Family Representatives (LFRs). The LFR role is to provide a local DFA representative for Defence families in their community and assist the DFA National Delegates as required with matters relating to that community.

LFRs are volunteers who engage with families by way of attending local activities such as local base events, peer social groups, playgroup, sports, local school events, community centres, etc. They work in partnership with the National Delegates to communicate about regional issues affecting Defence families.

If you are passionate about life as a Defence family, would like to contribute to affecting change and have the capacity and dedication for volunteer work we would love to hear from you. We are currently recruiting for LFRs in the regions of in Central NSW, ACT and Southern NSW – Wagga Wagga, Nowra and Canberra; Northern Territory – Tindal; Western Australia; and South Australia – Woodside.
