National Communications
Melody Song
I started with Defence Families of Australia in November 2021. I currently live on beautiful Yuin Country on the South Coast of New South Wales.
While I have only just begun my journey as a Defence partner, I have close friends who are current serving members as well as extended family members who have served.
I am a communications professional with almost 15 years’ experience in cross-media storytelling.
A former business, political and community news journalist, I have spent the last 10 years in marketing, communications and media liaison roles in the not-for-profit health, education and utilities sectors.
Before joining Defence Families of Australia, I was the proactive and social media lead in a small team within the Northern Territory Public Service.
I am passionate about working with for-purpose organisations which want to make a positive impact on people’s lives.
While my days as a newshound are over, I retain a love for sharing stories and shining a light on meaningful work done by organisations such as ours. I have a special interest in promoting more diverse and inclusive communication.
In addition to raising two young children and catering to the whims of our ageing rescue dog, I am also currently undertaking a Master of Science Communication.
