Advocating for Defence families

Welcome to Hireup

We are to delighted to announce that Hireup has joined us as a Defence Partner Friendly Employer. Hireup have written this week’s guest blog post.

Hireup is an online platform for people with a disability to find, hire and manage support workers who fit their needs and share their interests. People coming together with shared interests is at the heart of Hireup. It’s the idea that you can connect with someone not only because you meet their needs, but because you share their interests and connect on a genuine level. We know that support is far more meaningful and effective when it is built on the foundation of common ground.

The Hireup story starts with our CEO and co-founder siblings, Jordan and Laura O’Reilly. Jordan and Laura grew up alongside a brother with a disability. Managing support workers was part of their family routine, and sometimes the support workers were a great fit but more often than not, they weren’t.

While at university, Jordan became a disability support worker and learned that not only was the system broken for people with disability but also for support workers. It was with a deep and personal understanding of the disability support work system and the ways it needed to change that Jordan and Laura decided to create Hireup. Australia’s first online disability support network that puts its users in control.

On Hireup, you can provide a range of different supports, from in-home personal care to support at work or in the community. You don’t need any experience or qualifications in disability support to become a Hireup support worker, because people seeking support on Hireup are looking to connect with workers of all different backgrounds and experience.

At Hireup, we greatly value the diversity of our workforce. We firmly believe that people from all backgrounds and experiences can provide effective and person-centred support. We are looking for support workers  who are willing to share their skills from whatever their background may be, people who are dedicated, reliable, friendly and open to learning new things. Defence partners are a perfect example of this. As the nature of support work is person-centred, we acknowledge that everyone possesses soft skills to effectively and harmoniously interact and connect with other people.

The type of support you provide is entirely up to you and is most effective when you bring your personality, skills and interests to the job. Our diverse network of workers has been built to provide a range of skills and experience for people seeking support to choose from, which means both industry newcomers and career support workers can join Hireup.

To get started you just need to complete our pre-employment checks: drivers licence or passport, two referees, police check, CPR and/or First Aid Qualification, and a working with children check (if you want to work with people under 18).
